Common Threads

My interest in fashion traces back to experimentally sewing with my mother throughout my childhood. A recent study abroad experience in Copenhagen, Denmark introduced me to early female textile designers and the initial growth of the fashion industry. Paired with my previous knowledge of art history, I questioned how to determine the fine line between fashion and art. As the 2014 recipient of the Thomas Daniel Whetsell Memorial Fellowship, I explored these ideas under the guidance of local artist Nancy Corbin. My final exhibition, "Common Threads," combined found fabrics and pieces of my own clothing to recreate and allude to various works of fine art.
